CURL COMPASS

Easy Christmas Hairstyles for Kids: One Simple Trick Makes All the Difference

Want to make your child's everyday hairstyle Christmas-ready without starting from scratch? Add red, green, and gold hair cuffs! This simple trick works with straight, wavy, curly, and coily hair.

What You'll Need

Quick safety tip: Secure hair with elastics before adding cuffs. Small cuffs can be choking hazards. Supervise young children, check that accessories are secure, and remove them before naps and bedtime.

Give classic French braids a Christmas makeover with festive hair cuffs.

  1. Create a center part and clip one side out of the way.
  2. French braid each side, adding hair as you work toward the nape.
  3. Braid the remaining lengths and secure with elastics.
  4. Add red and green cuffs along the finished braids.

Christmas Bubble Ponytail for Kids

No braiding required! A bubble ponytail is a fun way to show off festive accessories.

  1. Create three rows. Use your comb to part a large section of hair at the front of the head. Divide it into three vertical rows running back from the hairline.
  2. Create connected ponytails. Working with one row at a time, part a small section of hair at the front hairline and secure it with an elastic. Part another small section directly behind it. Combine the first ponytail with the hair from the second section and secure them together with a new elastic. Continue this process down the row, then repeat for the other two rows.
  3. Make a high ponytail. Once all three rows are complete, gather the connected ponytails and the remaining loose hair into one high ponytail.
  4. Create the bubbles. Add elastics down the length of the high ponytail, leaving space between each one.
  5. Add volume. Gently pull the hair between each elastic outward to create rounded bubbles.
  6. Make it festive! Add Christmas-colored hair cuffs over the elastics and finish with a bow.

Easy Half-Up Christmas Hairstyle for Kids

Keep the length loose while adding a little Christmas sparkle along the front.

  1. Create your main partings. Start by creating a middle part from the front hairline toward the crown. On one side, create a horizontal part from just above the tip of the ear toward the middle part. Clip the remaining hair out of the way.
  2. Create your first section. Starting near the middle part, create a small vertical section at the front hairline. Gather the hair and secure it with an elastic.
  3. Connect the next ponytail. Create another small vertical section directly below the first. Gather the hair from the first ponytail and combine it with the new section. Secure it all together with an elastic.
  4. Continue the row. Repeat this process down the row until there's no loose hair left near the ear.
  5. Optional: Repeat on the other side. Follow the same steps on the opposite side of the middle part for a matching look.
  6. Leave the remaining hair down. Release the hair you clipped out of the way and let it fall naturally.
  7. Add festive details! Place alternating red and green hair cuffs over the elastics.

How to Make Your Christmas Hairstyles Look Photo-Ready

Even the cutest hairstyle can look different depending on how you part the hair.

Cleaner, more defined parts

Try these three tips for cleaner, more even sections:

  1. Use landmarks. The eyebrows and ears can help you check whether sections are balanced.
  2. Mist as you go. Lightly dampen naturally textured hair as needed to help your comb glide. Skip this if the hair has been heat-straightened.
  3. Check your lines. Gently move stray hairs to the correct side of the part and check the result from above.

You don't need to master a complicated new hairstyle to create something special for the holidays. Sometimes, all it takes is a hairstyle you already know, a few festive accessories, and a little creativity.

And remember, while cleaner parts can make a hairstyle look more polished, the most meaningful part is the time you spend together, the excitement of getting ready, and the memories you're creating along the way.
